Weekly Reflection from Pastor Kevin 8/19/26

Dear SCC & Friends,

For the vision… ~Habakkuk 2:3

Reflection #337

Vision is what could be before it becomes what is. ~Anon.~ The spiritual is not first, but the natural… ~1 Cor. 15:46 …When I was fourteen, nearly one hundred of us tried out for the freshman football team. In that era, not everyone made the roster… Coaches could cut you from the team, and parents had very little say…. I vividly remember the sweat and strain of “Football Camp” in the intense August heat and humidity. I had had my appendix removed in July, but I had to be there. The coach would walk on our stomachs as we did “leg lifts”, yelling and challenging us if we had what it took to play for our school. In retrospect, it was vision that sustained me… of one day earning a varsity letter… running onto the field with the band playing and the crowd “amped for victory”. It is vision that enables us to endure beyond our personal comfort and the ongoing challenges of life. I made the team, but some of my friends who were good athletes quit because it was “too hard”, the coaches were “too mean” and it just wasn’t worth it, etc… Every vision has obstacles to overcome before it becomes reality. ~Selah~

A “Reading Specialist” once told me the difference between sight and vision. He said every normal eye has sight, but vision is sight with understanding. A reading disability occurs when a person can see the letters but is limited in their ability to track or interpret what they’re seeing. I couldn’t help but think of Scripture… Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear?… ~Mk. 8:18 Vision is not just for mystics or gifted charismatic leaders… Nor is it only for those who can impact the masses. The truth is that vision is about pleasing God with the light we have… to know, love and serve Him in all facets of life, and to love our neighbor as ourself. Whatever God has put into your heart will have some measure of vision tied to it… God doesn’t show us the entire picture at once, as He calls us to walk by faith one day at a time… For the vision is yet for the appointed time; it hastens toward the goal, and it will not fail. Though it tarries, wait for it; for it will certainly come… ~Hab. 2:3 Keep up the good work!

                                                               Made for these days,
