Dear SCC & Friends,

…mere talk… ~Proverbs 14:23

Reflection #271

The phrase “talk is cheap” is analogous to “a cloud without rain or a well without water.” …let us not love merely in theory with word or with tongue giving lip service to compassion, but in action and in truth in practice and sincerity… ~ 1 Jn. 3:18 AMP The venerable sage, Yogi Berra, once said, “A verbal contract is not worth the paper it’s written on.” When I moved to California I worked in sales and marketing for a period of ten years. I literally went into thousands of retail stores. Every once in a while I’d buy something that I thought was unique. An incident stands out when I wrote a check for an item and instinctively got out my driver’s license to show proof of identification. The owner had a thick European accent and asked me what the license was for… “Is the check good?” I said, “Yes.” “Then that’s that.” I couldn’t help but ask what he would do if it wasn’t good. He simply said, “I would never do business with you again.” It was a refreshing reminder of an old adage… A man’s word is his bond.

In all labor there is profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.~Prov. 14:23 Our faith is not a collection of mental assents. It’s far more than “fire insurance”… or a theological belief system. If you want to know someone’s mind, listen to their words. If you want to know their heart, watch their actions.~Anon.~ We know God’s love through His actions. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. ~Jn. 3:16 He came to seek and save the lost is an action… Scripture exhorts us over and over again to take action in obedience to Christ. But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. ~Jam. 1:22 Actions speak louder than words, and mere talk will never get the job done. Well done is better than well said.~Benjamin Franklin~ Keep up the good work!
