Dear SCC & Friends,
…meditations of my heart… ~Psalm 19:14
Reflection #311
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer. ~Ps. 19:14 All of us have blind spots which we often defend through something called “confirmation bias”… It’s the tendency to believe information that supports and reaffirms what we already think… It predetermines the rightness of our position with minimal inquiry or circumspection… Who can discern (understand, distinguish, perceive) his errors?Acquit me of hidden faults. Also keep Your servant back from presumptuous sins; let them not rule over me. ~Ps. 19:12-13We need regular and honest self-examination which is an essential dynamic in our relationship with the Lord. There is a difference between meditating and thinking. To meditate means to think persistently, deeply and diligently. Properly speaking, it means to chew over something in the heart. ~Martin Luther~ I remember the days of old and meditate on all Your works and consider what Your hands have done. ~Ps. 143:5
Meditation speaks of our inner thoughts and quiet reasonings. It’s the “heart things” we muse and replay in our minds. Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being, and in the hidden part You will make me know wisdom. ~Ps. 51:6The meditation of our heart is that which dwells in us internally and subsequently shapes our outward behavior. Each of us pray and meditate in a singular way to the Lord… Meditation is not about the right technique or regimen but more importantly is an attitude of heartfelt inquiry and gladness unto the Lord… But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. ~Ps. 1:2 Our relationship with the Lord was never designed to be encased in outward appearance… Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my anxious thoughts; and see if there be any hurtful way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way. ~Ps. 139:23-24… We were made for these days… Keep up the good work!
Deep calls unto deep,
Kevin
