Weekly Reflection from Pastor Kevin 11/29/23

Dear SCC & Friends,

… Seek… ~Matthew 7:7

Reflection #195

Ready or not here I come! Every child knows the excitement of playing hide and seek… the glee of finding the person who thought they had the perfect hiding place. It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter. ~Prov. 25:2 Seek and you shall find is more accurately translated continually seek, which calls for an ongoing life-long process… It’s the modus operandi of our first priority… But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you. ~Matt. 6:33 A common refrain so often heard is “I found the Lord.” That statement does have an element of truth, but in reality He found us. For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.~Lk. 19:10 The Lord, Himself, is a seeker… Then the Lord God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?” ~Gen. 3:9 It was God who sought Adam and not the other way around… The Lord’s query is foundational to all of us. Where am I, and where are you?

He who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. ~Heb. 11:6 When I was in college, I got into a late-night debate with some friends about the meaning of life. I had strayed from my faith but instinctively knew that there had to be more to life than just passing through. I told my friends; “It can’t be just joining the Peace Corps or even being devoted to some worthy cause or noble pursuit. There has to be more! Somehow, I’m going to find the reason why I am here.” I got my answer three years later. It is encapsulated in the classic hymn… I heard an old, old story, how a Savior came in glory. He sought me and bought me with His redeeming blood; He loved me ere I knew Him, and all my love is due Him. He plunged me to victory beneath the cleansing flood. ~Victory in Jesus~ A seeking heart will not be denied. This is the first Sunday of Advent… “Seek and ye shall find.” Keep up the good work!

The King is coming,

Kevin
