Reflection #297
Our life experiences are ample reminders that we will never have it “all together”. Someone recently called me on the phone and was hoping for some spiritual insight regarding their future. The person wanted to know what he should be doing forever regarding his vocation. Does anybody have the answer to that? Today’s job may only be preparation for tomorrow’s opportunities. The Lord has put eternity in our hearts creating a desire for purpose and meaning. It’s the reason so many philanthropists and celebrities have buildings and foundations named after themselves… the hope that somehow their notoriety and purpose will endure beyond mortality. Jesus understood our propensity for certainty and security in an uncertain and insecure world… So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?” or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ …for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things… So don’t worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will take care of itself. ~Matt. 6:31-34
It’s not the type of job or career we have that matters most, rather it’s the pursuit of God’s purposes in whatever occupation we find ourselves. That which is has been already, and that which will be has already been, for God seeks what has passed by. ~Ecc. 3:15 My grandfather worked one day at a time for 50 years at the local post office. Was he happy? He seemed so… Was he fulfilled working at the post office? I think so…He never complained and had a great reputation. His example made a huge difference in my life… He wasn’t against planning or pursuing opportunities, but had the wisdom to take it one day at a time. We need faith for today, as that is all we have at this moment. Our times are in His hands. ~Ps. 31:15 Life can only be understood backwards but it must be lived forward. ~Anon. The future starts today…not tomorrow… This is the day the Lord has made… one at a time for His honor and glory. Keep up the good work!
