Time is not just a ticking clock, but a sequence of purposeful seasons controlled by God. ~Anon.~ The ancient Greeks had two words for the concept of time, Chronos and Kairos. Chronos refers to chronological or sequential time… the literal passing of hours, days and years on a calendar. Kairos signifies a strategic or opportune time for action often revealed as a turning point ordained by God. Chronos time encapsulates us in the ordinary duties of life, and it is in those times that we are to know, love and serve the Lord with all our heart, mind, soul and strength, and to love our neighbor as ourself. Kairos time is what we might call a “God moment” as an appointed juncture and a unique shift, whereby our present circumstances dynamically intersect with the will of God. The coming of Jesus had been promised since the Garden of Eden, and there was a specific (Kairos) moment of fulfillment …when the fulness of (Kairos) time came, God sent forth His Son… ~Gal. 4:4 …and when Jesus began His public ministry… The(Kairos) time has come, the kingdom of God is at hand… ~Mk. 1:15 …and again in betrayal and crucifixion… …My (Kairos) time is at hand… ~Matt. 26:18
Charles Dicken’s quote in The Tale of Two Cities remains eerily appropriate for yesterday, today and tomorrow… It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch in incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair. Until time is rolled up like a garment, we are to stand firm, knowing He’s at work in this present time and season just as He has been in the past. It may seem redundant, but the times we live in are the only times we have to live in… Be it Chronos or Kairos …My times are in Your hand… ~Ps. 31:15 The Lord is with us always and will never forsake His beloved. Jesus is the Rock of Ages and shall be …the stability of your times, a wealth of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is his treasure. ~Isa. 33:6 This is our time to render honor and glory to our wonderful Lord and Savior…. We were made for these days… Keep up the good work!
