He who sings, prays twice. ~Augustine~ I love to sing to the Lord… I just don’t do it enough. Listening to someone else sing and actually singing are two different things. It’s a bit ironic that some people who love music don’t like to sing that much. They listen and enjoy the best of secular and sacred music but rarely sing themselves be it in church or at home… Why? Maybe it’s self-consciousness or feeling that we don’t have a good enough voice or musical ear… Yet the tonal quality and harmony of our voice is never the issue with the Lord… Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. Serve the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful singing, ~Ps. 100:1-2 Singing is mentioned over four hundred times throughout the Old and New Testaments. Singing helps us to express our faith, connect with others, and celebrate the goodness of the Lord in our lives. A meaningful song can carry truth long after a sermon has ended. Singing and praise are for the here and now… I will praise the Lord while I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. ~Ps. 146:2
There are occasions when we need to “preach to ourselves,” and in my case I am challenged to sing more… not out of guilt or pressure, but to release more of my heart in devotion to the Lord. I will never get a recording contract, nor will I be the lead singer in a band… But I do like to make a joyful noise unto the Lord as a personal expression of love and adoration to Him. Praise and worship is greatly enhanced and amplified when we sing from the heart. Regardless of personality or temperament, all of us have the opportunity to sing and bless the Lord… O come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation. ~Ps. 95:1 …Where and when can we sing unto the Lord? …There are no limits…in the car, on your walks, in the shower, before meals, when we’re alone, when we’re together, at church, at meetings… Let everything that has breath praise the Lord… ~Ps. 150:6 We were made to sing… Keep up the good work!
