Open to the Holy Spirit

January 12th, 2007

What do you think it means to be open to the Holy Spirit? The Spirit empowers us to do the work of Christ. The Greek word for power is dunamis from whence we get the word dynamite. The Holy Spirit manifests like a mighty rushing wind, or settles like a dove. He is God, the third person of the trinity. Co-equal and co-substantial with the Father and Son. Are people afraid of the Holy Spirit because we don’t understand him? Or because some believers have used the gifts of the Holy Spirit in a presumptious or immature manner? Give your thoughts, and perspectives.  Kevin

Understanding the times

August 24th, 2006

The Book of Chronicles tells us that the sons of Issachar were men that understood the times. It seems to me that understading the day we live in is a two edged sword. 1) Our place in God..Who we are to Him and one another..Understanding the timelessness of His Word and applying it to our daily lives..stewarding our responsibilities for His glory and honor.. asking, knocking and seeking in every season, trusting the Lord through the mysterious integration of His sovereignty and our free will. 2) The global issues of our day, and seeing them through a Biblical world view. We have more info on current events then was ever imagined in previous generations..so many geo-political..socio-economic issues..We can actually know through the media the history of a person and their present predicament better than our next door neighbor.
What does it take to “understand the times”, both personally and collectively..Both locally and globally? I’ve got some ideas but would like to hear your thoughts..

Performance syndrome

July 13th, 2006

Been thinking about the whole issue of being real..authentic..as opposed to “playing a role” creating an image of ourselves that we think will gain approval and acceptance. In essence it means were only portraying life rather than living it. Performance makes us “Posers”, and yet it seems so easy to pose rather than be real and vulnerable before God and man. Performance is measurable and observed while the issues of the heart are hidden. The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom..the fear of man brings a snare..What are those snares to you? Why is religion such a fertile ground for performance? On the other side is being “REAL” the freedom to think and act like a jerk? How do we get like the psalmist.. Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight, Oh Lord my Rock and Redeemer..delighting to do his will…

gratitude

June 15th, 2006

Why is it so easy to be ungrateful? Why do we hold other people responsible for our happiness? Why is gratitude so fleeting? Have you ever met anyone “overflowing” with gratitude? What did that look like?

Look forward to your input and insights..
